In Our Hands: The Keepers of the Box of Treasures
The U’mista Cultural Centre is pleased to host a new exhibit “In Our Hands: The Keepers of the Box of Treasures” until Fall 2025.

This exhibit and accompanying catalogue trace their origins to 2001, when photographer Sharon Grainger embarked on a journey to capture the spirit and wisdom of Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw elders and knowledge keepers. Driven by the vision of Andrea Sanborn, then Executive Director, this project became an authentic record of Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw voices and perspectives. In 2020, U’mista’s current Executive Director, Juanita Johnston, picked up the baton to complete Andrea’s mission.
