Ma'tux gi'gi'ni - Two Salmon Eggs”

Limited Edition Giclée Print

by 'Ka'kaso'las - Cheryl Wadhams

-----

All salmon species were very important to the Kwakwaka'wakw, especially the Sockeye Salmon. The fish was, and is, an important food source and the roe (eggs) were used to make paint. The salmon represents twins and is always used in pairs; it is featured in some Undersea Kingdom dances.

This piece is part of a journey of "going back to the basics", exploring and studying traditional formline design concentrating on the 'ovoid'. This limited edition Giclée print is also part of a watercolour study during that same time.
